In a related development, a 15-man Committee has been inaugurated to reform and restructure Niger civil service for effective and quality service delivery.
Members of the ‘Rationalization Committee’ were drawn from the Niger State Civil Service Commission, according to a statement by Mrs. Mary Noel Berje, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Bello.
The committee is expected to submit its report in three (3) months.
Governor Sani Bello, who inaugurated the Committee disclosed that his administration has decided to reposition the State civil service to enable it play its critical role of implementing government policies and key programmes.
The term of reference for the Committee are; to review current structure of civil service with a view to enhancing institutional synergy and productivity, and also to highlight challenges that are confronting the service, especially the effective deployment of human resources for better service delivery, among others.
The Governor, noted with dismay that there is no proper succession plan in the civil service, describing the situation as ridiculous and worrisome, while also charging members of the Committee to work diligently.
The Committee is to be chaired by Engineer Abdulkadir Mohammed Ndatsu, and Dr. Yakubu Bello, a Permanent Secretary in the Office of Niger State’s Head of Service, as Secretary of the Committee.
Responding, Engr. Ndastu, assured the Governor Bello that the Committee will do its utmost best to justify the confidence reposed on them. He thereafter called for the support and cooperation of all MDAs and the labour union in the State.
